Andre Iguodala and Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warriors' two main defenders tasked with defending Kawhi Leonard, have proven to be the two best defenders against him in the league throughout this season.

Iggy and Klay are not only forcing him to take tough shots, but also forcing him to become a passer, effectively getting the ball out of his hands and forcing his teammates to become scorers.

This graphic by ESPN's Kirk Goldsberry showcases the duo keeping him well under 30 points per 100 possessions, a feat only a handful of others have been able to do this 2018-19 season:

A wise coach once said that “the best way of defending a matchup is ensuring he never sees the ball at all.” Leonard, an All-NBA-caliber player, makes that saying inexorable, but the basis remains the same — if the Warriors are going to be hurt by the Raptors' scoring, they would rather it come by other means beyond Leonard.

Taking the ball out of his hands and forcing him into tough, contested looks has been the recipe for the Warriors thus far in the NBA Finals, holding him to 38% from the floor and 33% from deep in this series.

Rare matchups against former Defensive Player of the Year Draymond Green and Kevon Looney have also forced Leonard to shoot 2-of-12 from the field, as his efficiency has taken a stark dip upon facing a championship-caliber defense.

However, The Klaw has efficiently lived at the line, making 26 of his 28 free-throw attempts in this series (92.9%), which includes recently setting the record for most free throws made without a miss, nailing all 16 of his shots at the charity stripe during Sunday’s 109-104 Game 2 loss.
