Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant has been ruled out of Game 5 of the NBA Finals after suffering a ‘lower leg injury.'

Per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the two-time Finals MVP will go through an MRI on Tuesday.

In the second quarter of Game 5, Kevin Durant suffered the leg injury in a one-on-one play with former OKC teammate Serge Ibaka. After unleashing a crossover, Durant suddenly came off limping on his right leg. He eventually lost the ball, hobbled to the sideline, clutching the lower right part of his leg as he fell. Game 5 was Durant's first game back in over a month after suffering a calf strain in a series with the Houston Rockets. In the game he suffered the injury, analysts believed that the 30-year-old suffered an Achilles heel tear. To recall, it was the same injury that derailed the tail-end of Kobe Bryant's career. It was that concerning for Kevin Durant.

Eventually, it was diagnosed as a calf strain, although rumors mushroomed that it was worse than the Warriors reported it to be. In this NBA Finals series, it is evident that the Warriors need Durant's services. He was not just the club's leading scorer in the postseason before he went down, but he also changes the whole dynamic of the team.

The Warriors — through four games — were empirically worse than the Toronto Raptors without Kevin Durant. Now they have to find a way to win three straight games without him, starting with the end of Game 5.
