Right after losing the NBA Finals to the Toronto Raptors, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr confirmed that star forward Kevin Durant — who will be a free agent in the summer — will miss all of the 2019-2020 season with an Achilles tear.

Per Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Steve Kerr seems not too affected by the Dubs' heartbreaking loss in six games. Perhaps what's more important for him is the health of Durant and Klay Thompson, whose Game 6 knee injury has yet to be diagnosed.

“What matters is Kevin Durant is going to miss next season with an Achilles tear. What matters is Klay suffered a knee injury. We'll know more later. But it's just brutal, just brutal what these guys have had to deal with.”

Historically, Achilles injuries have altered the careers of several NBA players. The most notable is Kobe Bryant, who suffered the same injury at the tail-end of his career. Though he could still play after the injury, it was very noticeable that he wasn't the Bryant of old.

Kevin Durant, 30 years old, is one of the biggest players who'll head to free agency this summer. Various rumors reveal that the New York Knicks — who can accommodate two max players — will be gunning for Durant. The initial reaction among analysts is that the former league MVP's market value will plummet.

However, most believe that his market value won't be affected at all. Durant is still relatively young by sports standards. Whether he returns to his old self is a matter of wait-and-see. Yet, having an elite player like Durant on your team is a plus. He's the type of player who can turn a franchise around.

We will see which franchise he chooses to be with when he rehabs and makes his long climb toward restoration.
