Heavy metal band Metallica started off Game 3 of the 2019 NBA Finals between the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors with a bang.

The duo of James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett played their electric guitar rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” at Oracle Arena on June 5.

Metallica's version of the national anthem certainly pumped up the fans in attendance. This wasn't the band's first time to play during the NBA Finals – it also played during Game 5 of the title series between the Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers four years ago. That set off Golden State's run of three NBA championships in four years.

Metallica has made its presence felt at sporting events in the Bay Area. According to SFGate.com, the band also played the “Star-Spangled Banner” prior to the opening pitch of a San Francisco Giants Game in 2017. Metallica also supports the Bay Area's NHL hockey team, the San Jose Sharks.

Unfortunately, Golden State lost to the visiting Toronto Raptors in Game 3, 123-109. The win propelled Toronto to a 2-1 series lead. The Raptors also reclaimed homecourt advantage.

Despite Stephen Curry's 47 points, the injury-ravaged Warriors couldn't keep up with the Raptors on Wednesday. Golden State played without Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Kevon Looney. If Thompson suits up for Game 4, it will make a huge difference.

For now, the fans will welcome a Metallica encore during the NBA Finals anytime.
