Only days ago, it seemed like a sure bet that forward Marcus Morris would be joining the San Antonio Spurs on a 2 year, $20 million deal. Now, all bets are off as multiple sources have reported that Morris is considering abandoning the deal and instead signing with the New York Knicks, who have offered him a one year, $15 million deal.

Sports Illustrated reporter Chris Mannix reported that a huge factor in this swing is that Morris was unhappy with how little attention he received in free agency:

Morris was one of the last quality wings to sign a contract, even after a great year with the Boston Celtics. In one of the best years of his career, Morris averaged 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 38 percent from three and 45 percent from the field.

The younger Morris twin proved that he is a durable and reliable player during a trying season. The Celtics were dysfunctional for nearly the entire season, and never found the balance between their stars and role players.

Amid this, Morris was able to post quality numbers and be a solid veteran presence. It is surprising that Morris was not offered a contract faster after displaying this.

It is understandable why Morris was unhappy with such a weak market for his services.

Unfortunately for the Spurs, this could translate to losing him to a subpar team and leaving a gap in wing talent for the upcoming season.
