The Banana Boat Brothers decided it was time to enact some change in the United States. At the beginning of the ESPY Awards, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, and Lebron James collectively made a statement before the show commenced.

“We cannot ignore the realities of the current state of America.” began Anthony in a serious tone.  “The events of the past week have put a spotlight on the injustice, distrust, and anger that plagued so many of us.”

The multitude of recent shootings and racial profiling incidents has truly exposed the corruption going on in the U.S. From fatalities in Orlando to the more recent deaths in Dallas, the state of this country is in shambles. If we want to cease this disorder, we have to accept that this is a problem we have to address as a nation.

“It's time to look in the mirror and ask ourselves ‘What are we doing to create change?' It's not about being a role model, it's not about our responsibilities for the tradition of activism,” added LeBron James.

Sure, as one sole individual, it's hard to create societal change that benefits all. The least we can do as a population is just be decent human being to one another. As we've learned, guns and violence only lead to death and sorrow, so maybe the U.S. should take a page out of Australia's book and get some control on the weapons in the hands of dangerous, ill-minded people.
