TNT’s “Inside The NBA” panelist and NBA legend, Charles Barkley, has some advice for the newly acquired Golden State Warriors forward, Kevin Durant.
Durant, who was the marquee free agent on the market this summer, has an eventful past on social media. Since free agency began, people have been digging up some old tweets made by KD that date back into his early days in the NBA.
Some of the tweets have been fun hearted in nature, as well comedic. Amongst those tweets it appears that Durant has had his fair share of arguments as well. This is where Barkley feels the need to step in and offer some advice.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, the NBA legend feels that Durant should not stoop to the level of his followers that try to stir things up on social media, particularly Twitter:
I saw Kevin Durant arguing with people not too long ago. Kevin Durant is a great, great player and great guy. So some kid he played against in high school made a thing that he kicked all of these NBA guys’s butts in high school and he put KD in there. Meanwhile, this guy is like a plumber. So Kevin Durant and this guy are arguing with each other and I am reading this in a newspaper thinking, ‘Dude, you are Kevin Durant. Why are you arguing with a plumber? (There’s nothing wrong with being a plumber, I might add) but you are Kevin Durant!' Same thing with RGIII and Colin Kaepernick. I’m like, ‘Dudes, why are you arguing with someone on the Internet?' I always use this analogy when it comes to sports fans: Just because you watch Grey’s Anatomy doesn’t mean you can perform an operation.
It should be noted that Barkley doesn’t have a Twitter account and probably does not understand the full extent of how bad the trolls and internet tough guys can be. With that being said, everything that Barkley said makes sense, seeing as Durant or any other NBA player has nothing to gain by giving some attention seekers their 15 minutes of fame.
