Five-star recruit Daishen Nix has decided to decommit from UCLA to sign in the G League for somewhere in the neighborhood of $300,000, according to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Nix joins Jalen Green and Isaiah Todd as stud prospects bypassing college and going to the G League.

Nix is a 6-foot-5 point guard who hails from Fairbanks, Alaska. He committed to play for UCLA in August 2019, despite having offers from several other schools, including Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, and Maryland.

Nix played his high school ball at Trinity International School in Las Vegas, Nevada. In his freshman year, he averaged 11.9 points, 6.1 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. He's the No. 15 player and No. 1 point guard in the 2020 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.

After Nix finished the eighth grade at Mears Middle School, his mother, Mina Tupuola, moved the family to Nevada. Part of her reasoning for this move was to give her son more opportunities to excel in his basketball career.

“I think I took the right path,” Nix's mother said in January, via the Anchorage Daily News.

In years past, prospects had to spend at least one year in college before making the jump to the NBA. Now, thanks to a new program with the G League, young players have a shot at bypassing the so-called “one-and-done” rule.

“I think it was the right thing for me because it was a family thing and a myself thing,” Nix said of his decision to join the G League, via The Los Angeles Times. “Playing in G League is basically getting me ready for the NBA draft. It’s just one step below the NBA.”

Losing Nix is a tough blow for the Bruins, but now he's one step closer to reaching his ultimate goal.
