NBA commissioner Adam Silver reacted to the Utah Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans kneeling during the national anthem on Thursday.

Silver says the league won't punish players for kneeling, per Marc Stein of the New York Times:

“I respect our teams’ unified act of peaceful protest for social justice and under these unique circumstances will not enforce our long-standing rule requiring standing during the playing of our national anthem.”

Along with kneeling, numerous players are wearing special messages on the back of their jerseys. It was reported back in June that the NBA wouldn't be enforcing its anthem rule for the bubble games down in Orlando, Florida.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers will cap off the opening day of the NBA restart. Both teams will likely kneel next to the Black Lives Matter sign that's on the court.
