Although there is still the possibility the NBA season could be canceled, there's also the chance that it still continues. Adam Silver — the commissioner of the NBA — appeared on TNT's “Inside the NBA” and made it clear that the 2019-20 season could still continue.

While stating that the league will most likely be on hiatus for at least 30 days, he did state that it's premature to say that the season was lost.

In fact, Silver stated that the 2020 NBA Finals could still take place in July or even late July. The league is currently on hiatus due to the threat of the coronavirus.

Via John Ourand of Sports Business Journal:

“Even if we're out for a month, even if we're out for six weeks, we can still restart the season. It might mean that the Finals take place in July or late July…It was way premature to suggest that we lost the season.”

The NBA Finals always takes place in June. It was initially scheduled to take place between June 4 and June 21. However, with the season being suspended for the time being, that obviously won't happy as originally scheduled.

The past 24 hours have been a whirlwind for the NBA. After Utah Jazz star Rudy Gobert tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, Silver made sure to suspend league play for the time being. Following Silver's decision, most other major North American sports leagues have followed, including the likes of the NHL, MLS, XFL, MLB and NCAA basketball.

It is unclear when, or if, the NBA will resume play this season.
