Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony has just been named the Western Conference Player of the Week after being out of the NBA just a few weeks ago.

This is the first time Anthony has been named Player of the Week since 2014:

Anthony put up 22.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for the Blazers last week. Portland went 3-0, with two wins coming against the Chicago Bulls, to move to 8-12 on the season.

Anthony is averaging 17.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists in six games. The 10-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer is shooting 46.2 percent from the field, 37.0 percent from the 3-point line and 80.0 percent from the charity stripe.

It appears Anthony is going to make it past the Jan. 7 guaranteed date of his contract. It's pretty incredible how well Melo has played with the Blazers after being out of the NBA for more than a year.

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo earned Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors. Antetokounmpo averaged 34.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 blocks for the Bucks, who went 4-0 last week.

The Bucks are 17-3 on the season, which is the best record in the East. Giannis, the reigning MVP, is putting up 30.9 points, 13.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game while shooting 56.0 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from beyond the arc and 58.6 percent from the free-throw line.

With Kawhi Leonard out West playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, Giannis and the Bucks have a great shot of winning the Eastern Conference. Carmelo Anthony and the Blazers, meanwhile, have more work to do to get back in the Western Conference playoff picture.
