Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, and Dwyane Wade are three of the most accomplished NBA players of the 21st century, but their success in basketball pales in comparison to their work off the court.

The three NBA superstars — along with their pal, LeBron James, among others — have led the way in using their platform to promote numerous social justice initiatives and community projects in recent years.

In response to last summer's killing of George Floyd and ensuing Black Lives Matters protests, Anthony, Paul and Wade came together to create the Social Change Fund, which aims to address racial inequality issues, including criminal justice reform, promoting education and the arts, expanding voting rights and access, combating police brutality, and improving health equity.

“The Social Change Fund is timely,” Anthony told Mark Medina of USA TODAY Sports. “It was our time to step up to the plate, put our money where our mouth is and really go out there and make change.”

The three future NBA Hall of Famers have each contributed undisclosed sums of their own money into the Fund.

“We’ve been able to do some great things individually, but we also want to stand with strength and numbers,” Wade said about starting the Fund. “We understand that this problem that we’re trying to fix is not going to be done by just one person.”

The Fund has also received donations from companies like Beyond Meat, Goldman Sachs, and Creative Artists Agency, plus other NBA and WNBA stars.

“We’re always open to suggestions and for people to join the Social Change Fund,’” Paul said. “It isn’t a fund that’s closed. We’re always open to new ideas and people that share similar passions.”

While Anthony noted that a new presidential administration is an important step in the right direction, plenty of work remains to be done, and the three NBA stars will continue to grow the Social Change Fund in the coming years.

“We’re always open to suggestions and for people to join the Social Change Fund,’” Paul said. “It isn’t a fund that’s closed. We’re always open to new ideas and people that share similar passions.”
