A few weeks after his comments about Carmelo Anthony went viral, Chauncey Billups is offering up another dose of Melo comments.

Billups previously said scoring 30 points meant too much for Anthony. The ESPN analyst, who was teammates with Anthony on the Denver Nuggets, believes Anthony has struggled with the mentality of having to take a backseat.

Billups, though, does believe Anthony should be on an NBA team since he can still score the ball in bunches.

“The whole thing about (Anthony), it’s kind of crazy how it went viral,” Billups told Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press. “I’d said that before, but it didn’t go viral the first time. Like I said, if Melo would do what Vince Carter did late in his career, what Paul Pierce did late in his career, even myself. Take that backseat and say, ‘I’m out of my prime, I just want to help a team.' Melo still has game. Melo can still come off the bench and get buckets for somebody, but it’s that mentality of having to take that backseat. It’s hard for a lot of great players.

“That’s probably one of the things he has struggled with. That’s pretty much all I said, but (chuckles) it went viral. Melo is one my favorite teammates in my career. The dude came to work every single day and he was a matchup nightmare. We worked well together. They tried to make it something that it wasn’t, but it’s all good.”

Carmelo Anthony has been an unrestricted free agent since February. The 10-time All-Star played in just 10 games with the Houston Rockets last season before the franchise exiled him and ultimately traded him to the Chicago Bulls in January.

The last time we saw Anthony in an NBA game was on Nov. 8, 2018. He scored just two points on 1-of-11 shooting from the field.

The Bulls waived Carmelo Anthony in February and the future Hall of Famer has been looking for work ever since. Chauncey Billups is hoping a team out there gives Melo another chance.
