Darren Collison is considering a February return to the NBA and the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers are emerging as his two preferred destinations, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Collison retired from the NBA before the 2019-20 season started. He played for the Indiana Pacers last season:

With the Pacers last season, Darren Collison averaged 11.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 76 games. He shot 46.7 percent from the field, 40.7 percent from beyond the arc and 83.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Collison, who played his college ball at UCLA, has career NBA averages of 12.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 708 games with the New Orleans Hornets, Pacers, Dallas Mavericks, Clippers and Sacramento Kings.

The Lakers have the best record in the Western Conference. They are 26-7. The Clippers, meanwhile, are in third place in the West. They are 24-11 and already 2-0 against the Lakers this season.

Clippers guard Patrick Beverley is expected to miss several games after spraining his wrist against the Utah Jazz this past Saturday, so maybe the Clippers will have interest in Collison. The Lakers are said to be looking to upgrade their guard position, as Rajon Rondo has struggled this season.

The NBA trade deadline is about a month away. We should see trade activity begin to ramp up soon. Darren Collison is a solid backup point guard who can run an offense and get others involved. We'll see if he ends up coming back to the league and if a team signs him.

For the first time in franchise history, the Clippers are legitimate title contenders with superstars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George leading the way. The Lakers, meanwhile, have a really good shot at winning it all with LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the fold.
