With teams scrambling to replace some of their missing players prior to the season restart, veteran big man DeMarcus Cousins was one of the biggest names that were thrown around as a potential addition for more than a few teams. Recently, the  29-year-old opened up about why he opted not to sign with any team during the hiatus.

Speaking to Rohan Nadkarni of SI, Cousins revealed that it was his own personal decision not to take part in the bubble.

“I miss basketball in general,” Cousins admitted. “I’ve been playing this game since I was a kid, and I’ve never been away from it for this long, so I’m missing it more than ever. But due to the circumstances, it’s a different game right now. Nothing but respect to the guys who went out there to the bubble and are doing what they’re doing. For me, it just wasn’t the right situation or the right time to be trying to force myself. It’s already me battling to get healthy and the obstacles in front of me. On top of that to add the different elements that are amongst us, it wasn’t the right time for me. I look forward to next season.”

DeMarcus Cousins signed with the Los Angeles Lakers last summer, but the 6-foot-10 big man suffered an unfortunate ACL tear even before the season started. The Lakers eventually waived him in February of this year, without even having played a single game for the team. He has since been without a team as he continues on his road to recovery on what has been an injury-ridden past couple of years for the former All-Star.

Cousins still has a lot of gas left in the tank, and he should prove to be one of the hottest free agents in the upcoming offseason.
