Following the news that Utah Jazz star center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus, the league made a quick decision to suspend play indefinitely for all teams. This move is being made for the safety of all players and fans. It is a shock, to say the least, but it is the right decision by commissioner Adam Silver.
At this point in time, it is unknown how long the NBA will suspend play. It could be a short period of time, or we may not see any NBA action for weeks or months. Either way, keeping everyone safe is much more important than playing basketball.
Needless to say, the coronavirus is becoming a serious threat to the world. The World Health Organization titled it a âpandemicâ earlier on Wednesday and it is nothing to be messed with. Countries are battling to contain it, which is easier said than done.
Previously, the NBA had been considering playing games without fans in the stands. The Golden State Warriors had already made the decision to play games without fans.
Only time will tell how long we will be without basketball, but Devin Booker and the rest of the players are a part of history. Hopefully, the end of this pandemic will come soon and we can return to business as scheduled.
