Buddy Hield and the Sacramento Kings are currently at a crossroads regarding the sharp-shooter's contract extension.

With both sides looking for middle ground, debates have gone around whether Hield should sign the extension now or wait out until restricted free agency in the summer of 2020.

HoopsHype along with an anonymous Eastern Conference executive suggested that the strength – or weakness – of the 2020 free agent class may actually be beneficial for someone like Hield.

Another important factor to consider is the weakness of the 2020 free-agent class. As of now, Hield is ranked as our ninth-best free agent next summer, but with another strong season, he could easily work his way into the Top 5.

One Eastern Conference exec actually believes it’d be beneficial for Hield to avoid an extension all together and wait for restricted free agency: “There’s a big incentive for a lot of these guys like Buddy Hield to wait because the 2020 free-agent class is weak, so they could possibly play their way into a max or near-max contract.”

Reports claim that Sacramento offered Hield a contract within the lines of four-years, $90-million. The four-year man reportedly felt low-balled by the offer as he reportedly expected to receive somewhere around $110-million for his big payday.

The Kings are in a pretty delicate spot here. The $90-million contract would give him around $22.5-million annually, while the $110-million deal would put him at $27.5-million per year.

Despite entering just his fourth NBA season, Hield is currently 26 years old. That five-year extension would mean that he'll be 31 by the time his contract expires. While Hield has grown extensively as an elite offensive talent, especially with his invaluable ability to shoot from beyond the arc, the Kings might still look at this particular nugget in considering whether a huge investment like that is worth it.
