Former NBA player Sebastian Telfair was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for gun possession in Brooklyn.

Unfortunately, the NBA veteran has had a long history with the law. In 2007, Telfair was pulled over for going over 70 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. Police found a gun in his car that he claimed was not his. In the end, Telfair was put on three-year probation and was suspended three games by the league.

The charge that will put Telfair in prison came from a larger case. After the police pulled him over again in 2017, a total of four firearms, a bulletproof vest and a joint were found in Telfair's car. Telfair could have been given a 15-year prison sentence for the felony charge, but he received three and a half.

The former 13th pick in the 2014 draft had a solid NBA career. He played for nine different NBA franchises spanning from Toronto to Los Angeles. He had arguably the best year of his career with Minnesota, where he averaged 9.8 points, 5.9 assists and 1.0 steal a game while shooting 38.3 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from three. He is perhaps best known for being traded to the Timberwolves in the deal that sent Kevin Garnett to Boston.

It's unfortunate to see another athlete locked up after a successful career. Hopefully, Sebastian Telfair can stay out of trouble and rebound after his prison sentence.
