For some aspiring basketball players, the NBA's G League represents a great stepping stone towards their ultimate goal. However, life in the developmental league is not easy, and salary has been an ongoing issue for quite some time, though that could be changing soon, according to a report from the New York Times.

Effective next season, players signed to G League contracts will earn $35,000 — or $7,000 per month — in addition to housing and insurance benefits over the course of the league's five-month regular season, according to sources who were not authorized to discuss the plans before they are announced publicly.

In years past, players in the G-League (previously known as the D League) earned a salary of either $26,000 or $19,000. Now, with the reported pay raise in place, players who are signed to G League contracts will earn 35-84 percent more, depending on their deal.

According to the New York Times report, players will also remain eligible to earn affiliate bonuses worth as much as $50,000. Those bonuses are awarded when a player attends training camp with an NBA team and later plays for their G League affiliate.

Currently, the G League consists of 27 teams, with more expected to be added next season, such as the Capital City Go-Go (Washington Wizards affiliate).

NBA teams will still be able to hold a pair of two-way players on their rosters. With the new salary figures in place next season, those deals will pay out $77,250 in the G League, which is up from last season's mark of $75,000. All in all, the maximum amount a two-way player will be able to make in 2018-19 will be $385,000, according to the New York Times.
