More than a few NBA players have made their voices heard — with a handful of them even taking the streets to take part in the peaceful protests — with regard to the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25. As it turns out, Floyd himself was a huge hoops fan, with none other than Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James being his favorite player.

Brandon Williams, Floyd's nephew, was one of the individuals that offered a eulogy at his uncle's memorial service on Thursday. One of the things Williams spoke about was Floyd's love and admiration for LeBron James.

“He was the biggest LeBron James fan,” Williams recalled, via Steve Gardner of USA TODAY. “When the [Cleveland Cavaliers] came back on the Golden State Warriors in the Finals, and I remember the very first phone call. I told him, ‘You're too happy. You sound like you won a championship.' ”

Floyd responded: “Man, you know how I feel about LeBron (James). I did win a championship.”

Williams was pertaining to that celebrated LeBron James comeback by the Cavs in 2016 against the Warriors, who at that time, were not only the defending champs, but more significantly, were already up in the series 3-1.

No other team has ever come back from that huge a deficit in NBA Finals history, and the fact that LeBron and the Cavs achieved that feat provided an immense level of fulfillment for Floyd on a personal level.

Being a huge LeBron James fan, Floyd is probably smiling down from heaven with all the love and support he's been getting from his idol.
