Forever connected by a draft night trade, Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young and Dallas Mavericks phenom Luka Doncic also shared an honor in January, winning Rookie of the Month for their respective conferences.

Trae Young was originally selected by the Mavs with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, but he was  immediately traded to the Hawks for Luka Doncic, who was taken third overall.

Young averaged 18.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.0 steal over 31.1 minutes per game last month.

The University of Oklahoma product also shot 44.4 percent from the floor, 33.7 percent from 3-point range and 86.4 percent from the free-throw line.

While Young is still not hitting threes at the rate many expected coming into his rookie campaign, he has shown stark improvement from the month of November when he connected on just 19.8 percent of his long-distance tries.

The 20-year-old put together six 20-point performances in January, including a 30-point outburst in which he made 11 of his 15 field-goal attempts in a losing effort against the Portland Trail Blazers on Jan. 26.

On the season overall, Young is registering 16.5 points, 3.1 boards ad 7.3 assists across 29.8 minutes a night while making 40.9 percent of his field-goal attempts, 29.5 percent of his triples and 80.8 percent of his foul shots.

Doncic posted 22.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.2 steals over 31.7 minutes per game for the Mavs last month, connecting on 42.5 percent of his shots, 30.6 percent of his treys and 66.7 percent of his free throws.

He tallied two triple-doubles in January, most recently racking up 35 points, 12 boards and 10 dimes in a loss to the Toronto Raptors on Jan. 27.

The Slovenian totaled three 30-point outings for the month.

Thus far this year, Doncic is logging 20.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.1 steals through 32.1 minutes a night, shooting 43.3 percent from the field, 35.2 percent from deep and 73.2 percent from the charity stripe.
