Zion Williamson, the most sought after sneaker endorser to enter the league since LeBron James, has officially signed with Jordan Brand. In a statement, Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan praised the New Orleans Pelicans rookie for wanting to “shock the world,” taking his namesake brand along with him.

“Zion’s incredible determination, character and play are inspiring,” Jordan said, per ESPN's Nick DePaula. “He’s an essential part of the new talent that will help lead the brand into the future. He told us he would ‘shock the world,’ and asked us to believe him. We do.”

Williamson alluded to his childhood fandom of the six-time champion as one of the reasons why he shirked mega offers from Adidas, Puma, and others to partner with Jordan Brand.

“I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the Jordan Brand family,” he said. “Since I was a kid, I dreamed of making it to the league & having the type of impact on the game Michael Jordan had & continues to have today. He was one of those special athletes I looked up to.”

New Orleans chose Williamson with the No. 1 pick of the NBA Draft on June 20, jump-starting a rebuild that had already begun by the team finally trading Anthony Davis for one of the richest trade packages in modern history.

The consensus National Player of the Year as a freshman, Williamson averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game last season. At 6-foot-7 and a chiseled 285 pounds, his combination of sheer size and overall athleticism is unlike any the game has ever seen before.
