Infectious disease experts recommended that eight full NBA teams be tested for the coronavirus, per Mike Bass, who oversees all public relations for the league.

“Once there were some players who tested positive, because of the unique working conditions of NBA players, team physicians and infectious disease experts…recommendation was to have eight other full teams tested,” Bass said, per Sopan Deb of the New York Times.

Thus far, seven NBA players have tested positive for the virus. They are Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert, Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell, Detroit Pistons big man Christian Wood, Brooklyn Nets small forward Kevin Durant and three unknown Nets players.

The league suspended play last Wednesday after Gobert’s test results were leaked. Owners would like to resume the season in June or July. The CDC is currently recommending no large gathering of 50 or more people for at least two months.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Tuesday that the NBA continues to consider numerous contingency plans based on when they can resume playing games. The league could play a limited continuation of the regular season and then shortened early playoff rounds from best-of-seven to best-of-five.

To recall, the NBA moved from a best-of-five first rounds to a best-of-seven back in 2003.

Hopefully, the 2019-20 season does resume in the summer.
