Free agent point guard Isaiah Thomas says he and his camp have had dialogue with “several teams.”
Thomas is an unrestricted free agent after getting waived by the Los Angeles Clippers:
“Yeah, I won’t say specific teams, but we’ve had talks with several teams,” Thomas told Alex Kennedy of Hoops Hype. “Teams are interested, but we’re just trying to figure out what’s the best situation for me. Also, we know that other things may open up very soon. But I’m just trying to stay as patient as possible when it comes to this while knowing that I’m ready for any opportunity that I’m given.
“Whether it’s a playoff team where I’ll be whichever piece they need to complete their puzzle or an up-and-coming team where I’m helping the young players and being a good veteran, I’m going to take advantage of whatever opportunity I’m given.”
Isaiah Thomas played in 40 games for the Washington Wizards this season. He averaged 12.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 40.8 percent from the field, 41.3 percent from beyond the arc and 81.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Everyone wants to see Thomas end up back on the Boston Celtics. Celtics president Danny Ainge recently shot down that idea, though.
In 525 games with the Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets and Wizards, Isaiah Thomas has career averages of 18.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists. He’s a two-time All-Star.
