Former congresswoman Stacey Abrams has played a pivotal role in the 2020 national elections. The voting rights activist has been a prominent voice in the state of Georgia, which now appears to be tilting in the favor of Democratic candidate Joe Biden. Abrams has been applauded for the invaluable work she has put in, and Basketball Hall of Famer, and general NBA icon, Isiah Thomas was one of many who heaped praise on the former minority leader.

Thomas took to Twitter to express his appreciation for Abrams and everything she stands for:

Stacey Abrams has indeed been an inspirational figure, and the turnout in Georgia is testament to the same. Georgia has long been a solid red state, but thanks in large part to Abrams and her tireless effort, Biden is on the brink of upsetting incumbent President Donald Trump.

In 2018, Abrams lost in her bid for governor against then-Secretary of State Brian Kemp. Abrams lost by a very slim margin (just 55,000 votes), and many claim that the election was stolen from her. Voter suppression was one of the primary reasons that was cited for Abrams' defeat, and she has since been an advocate to fight the same.

For his part, Isiah Thomas himself has been quite active in the socio-political sphere. While he has not exactly been a Stacey Abrams, the two-time NBA champ has also gone out of his way to encourage Americans to vote — particularly the Black community. He is one of the biggest names in the sport of basketball, and he continues to use his platform to reach out to as many people as he can.
