New Orleans Pelicans guard JJ Redick just offered some insights into what the format of the 2019-20 NBA season could look like if and when it resumes.

Speaking on “The JJ Redick Podcast” on The Ringer, the Pelicans sharpshooter revealed what he's heard about the NBA's proposed schedule format.

“The scenario I've heard…the top six teams are basically locked. Those seeds are locked. And they basically…they either scrimmage or play games that don't mean anything. And then seeds seven through 11 or seven through 12 in both conferences play for seeds seven and eight,” Redick explained.

Moreover, Redick pointed out that “seeds 13 through 15 just don't show up” and “don't have to do anything.” This would mean the Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks would be excluded from participating.

The Pelicans veteran, however, is not in full support of the idea of some NBA teams staying home. He thinks every team “should have to play a regular season.”

On Saturday, it has been reported that the league has started discussions to resume the season at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando. No official announcement has been made on whether that would include all 30 teams and a conclusion to the regular season — or if the league would jump directly into the postseason tournament.

Redick's Pelicans (28-36) currently sit 3.5 games behind the Memphis Grizzlies (32-33) for the final playoff spot in the West. Redick has made the playoffs in each of his 13 full NBA seasons.
