Atlanta Hawks big man John Collins is the early favorite to win the Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend on Feb. 16, per BetOnline.ag.

Collins is just ahead of New York Knicks guard Dennis Smith Jr. and Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges in the odds. Coming in last is Oklahoma City Thunder wing Hamidou Diallo.

Historically, the Slam Dunk Contest has been dominated by guards and wings, with guys like Michael Jordan, Vince Carter, Jason Richardson and Nate Robinson putting on performances for the ages in their dunk contest wins.

However, every once in a while, a big man will put on a show, as Blake Griffin and Dwight Howard can attest to.

Who can forget Howard putting on the Superman cape in 2008? Or Griffin jumping over the front of a car in 2011?

Still, bigs winning the event is rare, so the 6-foot-10 Collins is fighting an uphill battle in spite of the odds.

One thing is for sure, though: Collins is a stud on the court. The second-year big is averaging 19.6 points, 10 rebounds and 2.2 assists over 29.6 minutes per game this season while shooting 58.4 percent from the floor, 37 percent from three-point range and 73.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Collins' Atlanta Hawks may be one of the worst teams in the league right now, but the 21-year-old appears to be on his way to stardom.

The Layton, Ut. native, who played his collegiate basketball at Wake Forest, was originally selected by the Hawks in the first round (19th pick overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft.
