It didn't take long for veteran point guard Jose Calderon to break his silence regarding the rumors that came out Wednesday morning about him seriously considering retirement:

Calderon spent last season with the Detroit Pistons, where he played 49 games. He averaged 2.3 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 rebounds per contest. The 37-year-old guard is still hoping to land an NBA gig this upcoming season, but it is unclear if any team is interested in signing him, especially given his age.

The Spanish point guard has played 14 seasons in the NBA. Calderon began his career with the Toronto Raptors, where he played the first six seasons of his career. He has also had stints with the Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Pistons.

According to reports, Calderon has not entertained the idea of playing overseas, as he believes he still has enough gas left in his tank and still has a spot in the NBA. He has career averages of close to nine points and five assists, but his numbers have been on a downward trend over the past five seasons.

A championship-contending team could use Calderon's services as a third-string point guard. He can also serve as a veteran leader to a squad filled with rookies and young players.

The upcoming season is still almost two months away, so there's still plenty of time for Calderon to find a new team. However, if he ends up not getting signed, perhaps he'll decide to hang up the sneakers.
