NBA veteran point guard Jose Calderon is still a free agent ahead of the 2019-20 season, but he is not giving up on his hopes of staying in the league.

The 37-year-old floor general, best known for his extended tenure with the Toronto Raptors, last played for the Detroit Pistons. He appeared in 49 games for head coach Dwane Casey's squad in 2018-19, putting up 2.3 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 12.9 minutes per contest.

Per Alex Kennedy in Hoops Hype, Calderon is waiting for the chance to prove himself again.

“At this stage of my career, I think it’s going to be really hard to just keep practicing and working out for one, two, three months just in case something happens,” Calderon said.

“I think that’s tough, to stay in NBA shape for three or four months or whatever. I don’t know. I don’t really know what will happen in the next three or four weeks until training camp starts. I don’t know; if nobody calls, I think that’s something where I still have to make up my mind.”

Calderon has averaged 8.9 points and 5.8 assists per game in his 14-year career in the NBA. The 6-foot-3 guard is also an accomplished international player with his home nation of Spain, winning two silver medals at the Summer Olympics and one bronze and gold at the FIBA World Cup.
