Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets made headlines on Thursday after making some remarks that some believed were directed toward LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite the way his comments were construed, Irving fired back at reports that said he took shots at James on his Instagram.

On Thursday, Irving made an appearance on the “Etcs” podcast, Kevin Durant's program, where he spoke highly of his current teammate. The playmaking point guard shared that this is the first time in his career that he's felt confident in one of his teammates taking—and making—a shot in the waning moments of a game.

Of course, before Irving had a chance to play with Durant, he got a chance to play alongside James with the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier in his career. When Irving and James were together in Cleveland, everything seemed to be going smoothly between the two.

During their time together with the Cavaliers, they would make three consecutive NBA Finals appearances from 2015-17, winning an NBA Championship together in 2015. However, Irving would ask for a trade from Cleveland after the 2017 season, with his relationship with James being the reason why.

Kyrie Irving seemed to get jealous of the credit that James received from the media and how they treated Irving as the No. 2 option behind him. Following Irving's interesting comments on Thursday, James spoke about his current relationship with Anthony Davis on the Lakers, highlighting how neither of them are jealous of each other.

Regardless of whether Irving meant to subliminally take a shot at James or not, he should have realized what everyone would think when he said what he said. While he prepares to form a duo with Durant, Irving continues to give the media unneeded ammunition.
