Did Brooklyn Nets NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving forget about his time playing alongside LeBron James?

Irving made some interesting remarks during a recent interview. During the discussion, Uncle Drew praised his teammate, Kevin Durant, as a great option late in games. Irving went on to say that this is the first time in his career that he can rely on someone else to deliver when it counts most.

This statement from Irving is interesting, as he has, in fact, played with another great closer in the past. People call him The King. You may've heard of him.

Kyrie Irving and LeBron James once shared a jovial relationship. In 2016, the duo led the Cleveland Cavaliers to what many view as the greatest comeback effort in NBA Finals history, defeating the Golden State Warriors after trailing three games to one. It was a magical time in Northeast Ohio, with over one million people showing up for the championship parade. However, Irving requested a trade after winning the title, and the Cavs acquiesced — even though they didn't have to.

To Irving's credit, Kevin Durant is indeed a great closer. In fact, he's one of the best in that department. The two players joined forces in Brooklyn prior to the start of this season, but injuries hampered their playoff aspirations.

It's hard to say if Irving's remark was a direct shot at LeBron James, but it certainly was an oversight. Both stars are playing on different teams these days, with the memories they made in Cleveland fading in the rearview mirror.
