Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving hopped on his Instagram live to discuss an array of topics, one being his role model and teacher: the late Kobe Bryant of the Lakers.

Kyrie Irving has always looked up to Bryant even prior to entering the NBA. But after Bryant's passing in January, Irving's definition of “Mamba Mentality” has taken on a different identity. The New Jersey native put on a show dedicated to his idol in a 54-point performance against the Chicago Bulls five days after the Laker legend passed.

The Brooklyn guard has often went on record stating that he not only had a mentorship with Bryant, but also an unbelievable friendship as well. Shortly after winning his championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kyrie Irving deemed it necessary to immediately FaceTime the Hall of Famer Bryant to celebrate his career milestone.

Kyrie Irving came under fire Thursday after his comments about fellow teammate Kevin Durant appeared as shots directed at former teammates—namely LeBron James. Many felt that Irving's comments were false and ill-timed, given the fact that James and the Los Angeles Lakers are currently in the NBA Finals.

After hearing his latest batch of media criticism, Kyrie Irving announced that he'd be going live later in the afternoon Friday to speak for himself. Irving's never necessarily been a media reporter's favorite player to turn to in a locker room, as he often delivers misinterpreted or cryptic quotes.

Hopefully after airing out a few statements today, Kyrie Irving can continue to prepare for the 2020-21 season. Both he and Durant have a lot of work to do after being sidelined for practically all of the current season if they want to become true contenders next year.
