It sounds like NBA champion and former Sixth Man of the Year Award winner Lamar Odom is heading to China for another crack at playing basketball on a professional level.

Odom, now 38 years of age, posted an Instagram message on Thursday morning to share the news. The former No. 4 overall pick did not reveal which Chinese team he'll be playing for, but he did credit Stephon Marbury as his inspiration in making the decision.

“I have some good news to share with you on this beautiful day from The Netherlands,” Odom wrote in his Instagram post. “My heart literally warms up now I can finally share with you all that I'm returning to play Basketball. I will be playing in China ! God is good ! Thanks lord for giving me another chance in life and thank you fans for your the love and support during all those hard years. Never give up on yourself and keep believing that only god can create the miracles you're hoping for. Basketball and my children have always been the light in my life and this is where my focus is right now. Marbury's career was rebooted in China. In fact, he won three Chinese Basketball Association titles and six All-Star Game selections.

Odom hasn't played in the NBA since October of 2015, when he was found unconscious at a Las Vegas-area brothel due to drug use. In 2017, he wrote a piece for the Players' Tribune to explain the struggle of staying sober.

“I'm sober now, but it's an everyday struggle,” Odom wrote in his piece for The Players' Tribune. “I have an addiction. I'll always have an addiction. It never goes away. I mean, I want to get high right now. But I know that I can't if I want to be here for my children.”

Odom played 961 games over the course of his 14-year career in the NBA, racking up averages of 13.3 points on 46.3 percent shooting from the field (31.2 percent from beyond the arc), 8.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 0.9 steals in 33.4 minutes per outing.

Hopefully, with this new-found inspiration at his back, Odom will be able to revitalize his basketball career, albeit in China.
