Sports leagues around the world are fully embracing betting and the NBA is taking steps to improve the experience on that end for its fans. According to David Purdam of ESPN, the league will begin to distribute real-time date for in-game betting odds.

“We feel strongly that official NBA betting data provides the best experience for our fans,” Vice President and Head of Fantasy and Gaming Scott Kaufman-Ross said. “We want all legal operators to be using official data, and this framework ensures that there is a competitive marketplace for it.”

Gambling has always been a huge part of the sports entertainment industry, and with the changing laws, leagues are embracing it slowly. They see an opportunity to grow the game and, of course, make a profit. For years, sports leagues tried to distance themselves from the gambling world out of fear of corruption. Now that there is no stopping it, the NBA figured they might as well get a piece of the action.

“Sportradar and Genius Sports are proven leaders in data distribution and will deliver unparalleled, real-time official NBA betting data,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a release announcing the deal. “As the sports betting landscape continues to evolve at a rapid pace, these new partnerships will provide robust and reliable data to ensure the best possible gaming experience for our fans in the U.S.”

League commissioner Adam Silver is no dummy. He sees the writing on the wall and he knows it's best to get in on the ground floor. That's why they are making it their mission to create a healthy and fun environment for gambling on the NBA.
