Everyone in the NBA wants to know when the 2020-21 season is going to start and if games will be played in a bubble.

While a lot of details still need to be finalized, it looks like the 2020-21 campaign will start no sooner than Dec. 25, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Games could also potentially take place in a non-bubble setting.

The NBA held a call with its Board of Governors on Thursday and informed them that the 2020-21 season will start no sooner than Dec. 25. and that the league will provide an announcement on next season’s structure with eight weeks‘ notice of the final start date, sources told The Athletic.

The NBA also had a call with the league’s 30 general managers on Friday. The league office added the 2020-21 season dates remain fluid following the four-and-a-half month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, sources said. The NBA and National Basketball Association are planning for a Nov. 18 NBA draft.

For next season, the NBA prefers in-market competition with reduced travel and an amount of fans — instead of the bubble environment it is playing in currently, according to sources.

Charania adds that the NBA would like to play 82 games in 2020-21.

Commissioner Adam Silver did a phenomenal job in setting up the Walt Disney bubble in Orlando, Florida. The NBA has to give players who are playing in the 2020 playoffs the proper amount of rest before the 2020-21 campaign starts, and odds are Silver will do that since he’s handled this whole COVID-19 situation as good as anyone could have imagined.
