Though the NBA is facing substantial financial losses due to the coronavirus pandemic situation, the league and the National Basketball Players Association is confident that they can agree on temporary changes for the CBA and next season's salary cap.

There was some fear that the CBA would be terminated, but there's still hope that won't be the case. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA and NBPA have agreed to push back the 60-day window that preserves the right of each side to terminate. There is a new deadline, however, and it falls on Oct. 15th:

NBPA executive director Michele Robert delivered a statement to Woj:

“Extending is an easy cal. If everyone continues to be well-intentioned on how we deal with the economic effects of this virus, we'll just make the appropriate adjustments and there won't be a need to terminate the CBA at all.”

With regards to the coronavirus, the NBA has done well with the restart of the 2019-20 season, with no new positive tests inside the bubble in over a month. Still, organizations around the nation are feeling the financial impact of no fans in their arenas. Furthermore, eight teams were left without an invite to the bubble complex in Florida.

On a positive note, this extension will give the NBA and NBPA a bit more time to work on an agreement. It also guarantees an uninterrupted completion of the NBA playoffs, as Wojnarowski noted. Let's see what sort of arrangement the two sides come to in the coming months.
