Voting for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game is approaching the homestretch. One week before the starters are announced, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has blown past Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry to become the leading vote-getter with nearly seven million votes.

Last week, James was behind Curry by less than 100,000 votes and now boasts an 800,000 vote lead. They are the leaders at their respective Western Conference spots and are the only players to surpass six million votes thus far in NBA All-Star voting. The Brooklyn Nets' Kevin Durant and Chicago Bulls' DeMar DeRozan lead their respective Eastern Conference position groups.

James takes the lead as the  Lakers are going through a rough patch. Head coach Frank Vogel's job security looks thinner than paper, though James stuck up for him and the coaching staff. With a 22-23 record, Los Angeles is eighth in the conference. Curry and the Warriors, meanwhile, have the second-best record in the NBA at 32-12.

Ever since the NBA ditched the conference matchups in the All-Star game and allowed players to pick their teams in 2018, James has been one of the captains. Each conference's leading vote-getter becomes an All-Star captain. By overtaking Curry, James keeps his five-year streak alive. The rival captain will likely be Kevin Durant, who was one last year.

Fan voting accounts for half of the voting for the All-Star starters, which will be announced next Thursday. The NBA All-Star Game takes place in Cleveland on February 20.
