On Wednesday, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees said that he would “never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag,” referencing how some athletes choose to kneel during the national anthem, and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James had plenty to say about it.

Brees' comments have drawn significant backlash from many, including his own teammate, wide receiver Michael Thomas.

James responded to Brees on Twitter:

LeBron James surely won't be the last voice that Brees hears.

This is not the first time that Brees has made his opinion on kneeling during the anthem known. Back in 2016, Brees supported Colin Kaepernick's fight against racial injustice, but he disagreed with his method when Kaepernick decided to take a knee whenever the national anthem was played before NFL games:

“I love and respect my teammates and I stand right there with them in regards to fighting for racial equality and justice,” Brees said Wednesday, via Mike Triplett of ESPN.com. “I also stand with my grandfathers who risked their lives for this country and countless other military men and women who do it on a daily basis. … I believe we should all stand for the national anthem and respect our country and all those who sacrificed so much for our freedoms.”

LeBron James has regularly made his thoughts on social injustice known over the past several years, so the fact that he has chosen to reply to Brees is not the least bit surprising.

Hopefully, everyone involved here can have a civilized discussion and come to a peaceful agreement.
