The fans got an interesting shakeup to the 2018 NBA All-Star Game with the players being picked by the league's two leading vote-getters. To no surprise, Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James and Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry were named as team captains.

Needless to say, they have done a good job of selling all the intriguing aspects of the new format. Although fans were disappointed to hear that the draft would not be televised, James and Curry hinted on Twitter that could be changing very soon after making their picks:

The consensus had voiced their displeasure with the lack of competitiveness that occurred over the last few All-Star games. As a result, both fans and players were excited to hear that the league had switched to the new format. However, that excitement was quickly replaced by dismay after the NBA announced it would not be televising the draft.

Since this was the first time in league history things would be done this way, it seems the NBA used this year as a trial run for what to do in the future. Furthermore, players had expressed their concern with any of the potential draftees being scrutinized for their selection.

However, it seems that the draft may have actually worked out better than James and Curry initially presumed. There are plenty of interesting aspects to the new format that has generated plenty of buzz. With the teams now set, it will be interesting to see how both captains went about picking their squads for this year's game.
