To say that several members of the NBA community were disgruntled by the recent grand jury decision on the case of Breonna Taylor would be a complete understatement. This was exactly the case for ESPN writer and reporter Malika Andrews, who did not hold back with her on-air message about the recent verdict.

Andrews was on the brink of tears, as she was initially reporting on Jaylen Brown's reaction to the news, and expressed her utter dismay at how the grand jury decided on Taylor's case.

“I have prided myself in being able to be objective, and cover these sorts of issues,” Andrews said, via fellow ESPN broadcaster Rachel Nichols. “But when it so clear that the system of objectivity in journalism is so whitewashed and doesn't account for the fact that when I am walking up the hill my wonderful producer Melinda reminds me that Breonna Taylor was 26, and I am 25, and that could have been me.”

Being the professional that she is, Malika Andrews was able to hold her tears back and proceed to the next part of her message. Nevertheless, it was clear that she was extremely emotional.

Andrews went on to share the type of mindset the players of the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics had prior to Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday:

“It is very hard to continue to go to work, and that's what these players were feeling,” she said. “Now players on both sides said that they did not contemplate not actually playing in this game. They always knew that was something they were going to do. But hat doesn't mean that they were not disappointed with what happened today in Louisville.”

While not every single person may agree with Andrews' stance, she deserves a ton of credit for speaking her mind here.
