So which one really is it? With the NBA restart coming in around 30 days, the move has been questioned as cases of COVID-19 have recently surged and a number of players have contracted the disease. This has brought up speculation about the restart, as the move has been criticized with regards to prioritizing money over health.

However, NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, has voiced that it's not even economical for the league to play on Disney World, as the expenses are reportedly to be expensive. Rather, this is the NBA trying to move forward despite the current circumstances while trying to strike a balance between health and economic necessities.

On the other hand, Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, has shared a different opinion in a recent interview with Sean Gregory from Time Magazine where he stated:

“Is it for the money? Yes, that’s a big part of it. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t say that was — had something to do with it.”

Moreover, he followed this up by expressing that he believes the return of professional sports would serve a role in helping the mental state of the country, as fans will have something to be optimistic about again.

Overall, the NBA restart has brought upon new debates due to recent events. However, Silver does have a point where the expenses of this move will be sizable enough to say that it's really not about the money. In contrast, Cuban is likely referring to TV revenue as a source of income, rather than ticket sales.
