When Metta World Peace was Ron Artest, there was an incident in Detroit that derailed his career for a significant amount of time.

Everyone remembers Malice at the Palace, where Artest went into the stands as a melee ensued between the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons. It's an infamous event in NBA history.

Artest was suspended for the rest of the season because of his involvement in that brawl, and a slew of other suspensions was handed out by the league as well. In a recent tweet, World Peace harkened back to that time and the suspension, tying the margin of a horrendous loss by the Memphis Grizzlies to the number of games he was suspended all those years ago.

The Grizzlies lost 140-79 to the Charlotte Hornets a few days ago. That's a 61-point margin. It was truly awful.

World Peace was actually suspended a total of 83 games (73 regular season, 10 playoffs), so his numbers were a bit off when it came to the margin of victory of that Grizzlies-Hornets game. But the sentiment is right on.

How can any NBA team lose by 61 points. In the modern NBA, with the prevalence of 3-pointers, it's almost unheard of.

It's true that the Grizzlies have been decimated by injuries and a coaching change this season, and it's widely known that the team is tanking for a draft pick this summer.

But to lose by that much is beyond embarrassing. The fan base should be ashamed to cheer for a team like that, and the players should be ashamed to play that way.

The good news is the season is almost over, and perhaps next year will be a new day for the Grizzlies and their fans.
