It was recently reported that the great Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand will be donating a sum of $100 million to support efforts against racial inequality in the nation. The Chicago Bulls legend has recently explained his motivation behind this generous donation, saying that he wanted to make sure his hard-earned money is used for something that is worth fighting for.

This is what Jordan had to say to Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer about his recent act of philanthropy:

“If I’m giving $100 million, along with Jordan Brand, then we’re going to make this go in a way that makes a difference,” Jordan said. “And this —attacking ingrained racism, supporting educational opportunity — is a very necessary step in society.”

Earlier, Michael Jordan made a statement expressing how he was “truly pained and angry” about the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police. Jordan is not exactly one to involve himself in socio-political issues — something he was criticized for in ESPN/Netflix's “The Last Dance” — but this time around, he simply could not keep mum.

Jordan then went on to say that while they have yet to determine exactly where and how the donation will be deployed, the important part here is about sending a message.

“We haven’t yet figured which vehicles to utilize. But it’s first about making an effort,” Jordan explained” It’s not just (donating) money. It’s the act of calling on all of us to take a look at ourselves. That’s an important start.”

This is a call to arms from one of, if not the greatest to every play the sport. Jordan is reminding each and every person that he/she also plays an important role in the fight against racism.
