The NBA's initiative to promote social justice through the implementation of statements on player jerseys seems be going over well with most players. There were a handful of pre-approved messages that were available to choose from. The most popular ones have now been revealed.

NBA insider Tim Reynolds reported via Twitter that the top two messages are “Equality” and “Black Lives Matter,” respectively:

This is not surprising considering the strong message sent by both statements. They pretty much encompass the entire movement against the plague of social inequality that has mired the nation.

As Reynolds notes, 16% of the players have opted not to change their names on their jerseys. A couple of the most high-profile players that have not supported this particular league-sanctioned initiative include the Los Angeles Lakers pair of LeBron James and Anhtony Davis.

Clearly, it is not about their lack of support for the “Black Lives Matter” or their disagreement with what the league is doing. For guys like James and Davis, they just prefer to use different avenues to fight their respective battles against systemic racism in the United States.

For what it's worth, this is just one of the many initiatives the league is taking in this respect. The NBA has received some criticism — including some from of its own players — for serving as a distraction from the social issues that have plagued the nation.

For their part, the league is doing everything and anything in their power to ensure that this is not the case.
