Amid the controversial Roe v. Wade overturn decision by the Supreme Court, the NBA and WNBA made a stand and vowed to continue advocating for women's rights whatever happens.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert released a joint statement in response to the landmark ruling, sharing their commitment to ensure access to reproductive health care.

The Roe v. Wade overturn basically means that the nationwide right to abortion cease to exist. With that, several states are expected to ban or severely restrict abortion, which would force millions of people to move to other states in search for better reproductive health care.

“The NBA and WNBA believe that women should be able to make their own decisions concerning their health and future, and we believe that freedom should be protected. We will continue to advocate for gender and health equity, including ensuring our employees have access to reproductive health care, regardless of their location,” the statement reads.

For what it's worth, NBA stars Kyrie Irving and LeBron James have also spoken out regarding the issue, condemning the decision and its impact to women and their rights.

James retweeted Barack Obama's thoughts on the matter, which highlighted that the Roe v. Wade overturn attacks “the essential freedoms of millions of Americans.”

Meanwhile, Irving pleaded for everyone to help protect women by “any means necessary” after questioning whether the Supreme Court are awake or even aware of everything that's happening right now.
