National Basketball League CEO Jeremy Loeliger confirmed there is no truth to the rumors indicating that Carmelo Anthony will play for the New Zealand Breakers next season.

Recent rumors spread like a wildfire, and fans started believing that the high-scoring superstar will head to New Zealand for the next NBL season. Loeliger said that he has not received any concrete details about the said move, reiterating that the Carmelo-to-Breakers talk is just a plain rumor.

“Carmelo is a little beyond the Next Stars program sadly,” Loeliger said via Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog. “Not sure where those rumors started but as far as I’m aware, they’re just that, rumors.”

The Breakers did make a big noise, though, as they announced the signing of American high school star RJ Hampton. Hampton was one of the top recruitment prospects in college basketball, but he opted to go professional in New Zealand.

There are also talks that the Breakers are looking to add another high school prospect, LaMelo Ball.

As for Anthony, it remains to be seen where he will land next season. The 34-year-old superstar played only 10 games for the Houston Rockets last season. He averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in 29.4 minutes before he and the Rockets mutually parted ways.
