Projected 2020 lottery pick LaMelo Ball has reportedly returned to the United States after a fruitful stint with the Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League in Australia.

The 18-year-old Ball's overseas stint was cut short due to a foot injury and he will now focus on rehabilitation ahead of the upcoming NBA draft.

With Ball's short-lived NBL tenure now officially over, NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said that the teenager's chances of being a top pick are at an all-time high.

“LaMelo’s draft stocks have significantly improved during the course of his season here in the NBL. He has shown his undoubted talent but also developed as a player and a person by spending time in a professional, world class league,” he shared, via the NBL website.

“Like all NBL Next Stars, we are proud to have played a part in his journey to the NBA and we look forward to maintaining a close association with him as he takes the next steps in his professional career.”

Illawarra Hawks General Manager, Mat Campbell also echoed the same sentiments, thanking Ball for his contributions on the court and within the community.

The youngest of the Ball brood, LaMelo Ball has taken an unconventional route by opting not to play college ball. Prior to playing in Australia, the 6-foot-7 guard suited up in Lithuania and in his father LaVar's Junior Basketball Association (JBA).

In 12 games for the Hawks, he averaged 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists per game. He certainly impressed by compiling a highlight reel of on-point dime-dropping, crafty ball-handling, and the occasional poster dunks.

Scouts also marveled at his leadership and poise, especially after playing against older and more experienced competition.
