At this point, it has become more and more obvious that nobody has the intention of signing 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony. Not even a team from halfway across the world seems interested in taking Melo and his baggage.

According to a report coming out of the NZ Herald, the New Zealand Breakers basketball club have denied rumors pertaining to their signing of Anthony.

A source within the Breakers organisation has quashed social media speculation NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony has signed with the NBL club.

Nevertheless, this deal does not appear to be completely dead, with the team's management expected to make an announcement soon.

However, the Herald understands from local sources a “significant announcement” is due from the Breakers within the next 48 hours.

One can only speculate that this “significant announcement” involves Anthony, and for his sake, we're hoping that this is indeed the case.

After playing only 10 games for the Houston Rockets this season, the team made it abundantly clear that they had every intention of pulling the plug on the Melo experiment as soon as humanly possible by trading him off to the Chicago Bulls mid-season.

This was nothing more than a money-making maneuver by the Bulls, who quickly waived Anthony just one week after acquiring him. No other team picked him up from the waiver wire, and it appears that the NBA's disinterest will extend to this summer.

It does seem that we've seen the last of the 34-year-old in the league, and we do wish him all the luck in his future endeavors.
