Free agent point guard Omri Casspi is still looking for another shot in the NBA. He has been waived by the Memphis Grizzlies back in February and hasn't found a new home since. However, according to EuroHoops.net, the veteran forward could also end up with his former EuroLeague team, Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Maccabi is “accelerating” the negotiations with Casspi in light of Milos Teodosic choosing to sign with Virtus Bologna. The Israeli side has been in contract with Casspi these past months.
Omri Casspi, 31, played for Maccabi in two separate stints between 2005-2009 before being drafted 23rd overall the Sacramento Kings in the same year. He has averaged 7.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists in 20.3 minutes over his 10-years in the league. He also had stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Houston Rockets, New Orleans Pelicans, Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors and the Grizzlies.
He was a member of the Warriors' 2017-18 championship team.
Omri Casspi can still provide decent numbers to a contender, especially for teams who are looking to add a 3-point shooter. He shot 35 percent from beyond the arc and has close to a 37 percent clip in his career. He may be a liability on defense, but with the right team and system, he can still contribute.
It is unclear if Casspi will still get another shot at the NBA, but if he doesn't end up getting a deal, at least there's another opportunity waiting for him, and with players like Nikola Mirotic and Milos Teodosic getting handsomely paid in Europe, it is possible for him to get a big paycheck as well.
