Former United States surgeon general Vivek Murthy spoke to the NBA’s Board of Governors during a conference call on Tuesday, per The Athletic and ESPN.

The message Murthy delivered reportedly left NBA owners with hope of resuming the 2019-20 season before the start of July:

The NBA suspended the campaign almost a week ago after Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert, the NBA’s reigning two-time Defensive Player of the Year, tested positive for the coronavirus.

Following Gobert’s positive test, Jazz star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell, Detroit Pistons center Christian Wood and Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant have tested positive.

Hopefully, the NBA season can resume. There were so many interesting storylines going on before the season was canceled.

LeBron James was trying to win his fourth championship with the Los Angeles Lakers. James and the Lakers had the best record in the NBA’s Western Conference.

The other team in Los Angeles was a title contender as well. Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and the L.A. Clippers were just 5.5 games behind James and the Lakers for first place out West.

Meanwhile in the East, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks once again have the top record in the NBA. Most pundits were leaning toward voting for Giannis as MVP again despite LeBron’s greatness.

Houston Rockets guard James Harden was leading the NBA in scoring for the third consecutive season. James, meanwhile, was first in assists since he’s been playing point guard for the Lakers. Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond was first in rebounds.
